Tarnish Free - Hypoallergenic Stainless Steel Jewellery
Hello there! I’m Katherine, a proud child of the 1960s, born in Yorkshire — land of tea, sheep, and a textile heritage so strong it could practically weave its own stories. From the moment I could hold a pair of scissors (safely, of course), I’ve been crafting, stitching, gluing, knitting, and occasionally glitter-bombing my way through life.

When I was three, my family whisked me off to the Netherlands, where I learned two very important life skills:

-
How to ice skate on frozen dykes (yes, very cold, yes, I still have all my toes).
-
How to stay creative even when the weather made you want to hibernate under a mountain of wool.

Eventually, we returned to England, landing in Huddersfield — a town famous for weaving, manufacturing, and wool textiles. It was there, at the end of our driveway, that I launched my first mini crafting empire with nothing more than a little table, handmade goods, and the entrepreneurial spirit of a child who really wanted to fund their sweet shop habit.

Fast-forward a few decades, and not much has changed: I’m still crafting, still creating, and still running my “little table” — only now it’s digital (thank you, internet!) and a lot bigger.

From Life’s Plot Twists to Dizzy Co Designs

Like most people, my growing up years came with the usual mix of boyfriends, mortgages, marriage, divorce, and the occasional “what on earth am I doing?” moments.
Life stitched me together with as many knots as smooth seams — but every thread led me closer to the maker (and mischief-maker) I am today.

Fast forward to 2009: Enter Russ (partner-in-crime, fixer-of-things, and occasional tea-bringer). Together we packed up in 2014, waved goodbye to England, and headed to France. We bought a run-down smallholding with a farmhouse that could charitably be described as “in need of love” — or less charitably as “what were we thinking?”
Between rebuilding walls, wrangling weeds, and wondering if we’d ever understand French paperwork, Dizzy Co Designs was born.

Named after my much-loved (and very opinionated) Westie, Dizzy, the brand became my creative outlet. From textiles to handcrafted home décor and gifts, everything carried a little sparkle of Yorkshire grit, a dash of French chill, and the wag of a Westie’s tail.

I even opened a shop and bravely attempted to speak French (badly, but with enthusiasm — which counts, right?). Then 2020 arrived. Covid hit. Shops shut. Travel stopped. Income vanished. Like many small businesses, we had to make hard choices. We sold up, returned to good old Blighty, and began again.

Sadly, my beloved Dizzy crossed the rainbow bridge — but her spirit lives on in every piece I make. Around this time, I stumbled into a new obsession: chain maille jewellery.

What started as a curiosity turned into a full-blown passion. With no knight in shining armour in sight, I decided I’d make the armor myself — just prettier, lighter, and something you can actually wear without scaring the neighbours.

Self-taught (with plenty of mistakes and a few “why are there so many rings on the floor?!” moments), I now sell my handmade chain maille jewellery in the UK at local craft fairs, artisan markets, agricultural shows, and online. Each piece is designed to be wearable art — bold, unique, and full of character.

What I Do

I turn ideas into handmade treasures, artisan jewellery, and textile-inspired creations you can actually hold, wear, or proudly gift. From Yorkshire roots to Dutch ice skates, Huddersfield hustle to French farmhouse adventures, every piece I make is stitched with history, heritage, and a cheeky sense of humour.

Fun Facts You Didn’t Ask For (But You’re Getting Anyway)

-
I can smell a textile wool blend at twenty paces. (It’s my superpower.)
-
I still sometimes call it “ice state” instead of “ice skate” — Yorkshire tongue meets Dutch dykes, what can I say?
-
If crafting were an Olympic sport, my glue-gun burns alone would qualify me for the finals.
-
Chain maille may have started in medieval times, but I can promise my jewellery is 100% dragon-free.

What’s Next?

Honestly? Who knows. That’s the beauty of the journey. Life has a funny way of unpicking seams and restitching them into something new. All I know is this: wherever I go, my creativity comes with me. After all, it’s not about the destination, n’est-ce pas? It’s about the adventure, the craft, and the stories we weave along the way.
